Pen-y-Ghent A Circular Walk. Pen-y-Ghent is one of the famous Yorkshire Dales 3 Peaks. At 694 metres or 2,277 feet above sea level it is the smallest of the three but, in my opinion is the most dramatic in appearance. Turn left for a few metres, cross the wooden bridge, turn left again and follow the lane. Then after a few hundred metres up this lane you see a signpost left saying Pen-y-ghent and Yorkshire 3 peaks. This is the path up and up.

Pen – y – ghent lies imposingly straight ahead. Carrying on up the lane past the primary school, the lane slowly gains height and bends round to the right as it approaches Brackenbottom Farm. Immediately before the farm, turn left at the wooden signpost claiming Pen – y – ghent Summit 1¾ miles through a wooden gate.
Pen-y-Ghent Starting the Yorkshire Three Peaks from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, and walking in the traditional counterclockwise direction, Pen-y-Ghent is the first peak to be ascended. From the car park in Horton, the path to Pen-y-Ghent can be found along the road to Brackenbottom Farm, turning off to the left just before the farm itself, by the church.
10/1/2020 · Easiest of the 3 peaks … We are steep climb averse so intended to climb Pen Y Ghent via the circular route in a clockwise direction. However we popped into the little tourist office in Horton and the helpful lady behind the counter recommended we went the opposite way round. We were glad we followed her advice.
As you approach the nose of Pen-y-ghent your route takes you over a stile to join the Pennine Way, heading north-west-ish and towards the summit via a fun and exhilarating scramble. On the steeper sections of the scramble, encourage youngsters to have three points of contact and to take it steady and not to rush as it can be slippery.
